VORES RUM
My bachelor project in cooperation with the organization, Sager Der Samler, about the relations between parents living on the street and their children.
About the project:
Vores Rum is a project in Aarhus focusing on how homeless and former homeless parents have difficulties keeping a relation to their kids.
The project is started by Jens De st. Cyer Sørensen, who him self has been in the situation of being homeless and try to keep the contact to his kids.
Sager Der Samler is an organization that helps citizens in Aarhus to start social and sustainable cases in Aarhus - an organization that believes in civil activisme for better cities.
MY CONTRIBUTION
Design Challenge: How can play make trust and presence between a child and a parent?
What: A playhouse that makes attention about "Vores Rum" as a part of events facilitated by Sager der Samler.
RESEARCH
RESEARCH QUESTION: How is the situation for vulnerable families in Denmark?
CORE DESIGN METHODS: Observations, dialogues, empericism, sketching, clustering, drawing workshop and visualization.
To understand the life of homeless people in Denmark I went out to visit shelters in Aarhus with Jens. In these visits I got to know Jens, who told me his story about being a homeless parent and what he dreams about considering Vores Rum.
DRAWING WORKSHOP ABOUT FAMILY RELATIONS
Participants: People involved in Vores Rum.
VISUALIZATIONS OF DIALOGUES WITH JENS AND METTE
Interpretations of Jens's experience being a homeless dad.
Interpretations of Mettes experience having a homeless dad.
PLAY EXPERIMENTS
RESEARCH QUESTION: How can play make trust and presence between a child and a parent?
CORE DESIGN METHODS: Experiments with play, prototyping and sketching.
PLAY EXPERIMENT 1: TO MAKE A PARENT AND A CHILD PLAY ON EQUAL TERMS
Johannes (son) and Lars (father) testing how to build a figure together, where Lars is not able to see anything and Johannes is not allowed to touch the figure.
Findings: Makes a child and a father play on equal terms. The father needs to trust his son, that they will build the right figure.
PLAY EXPERIMENT 2: TESTING FINDINGS FROM FORMER EXPERIMENT
I went to a kindergarden and tested on my own body how children guided me through obstacles in different ways, while I was blinded.
POP-UP PLAYHOUSE
A pop-up-playhouse consisting of two playhouses: One for the parent and one for the child. When the parent and the child meets they bring each of their houses, connect them and creates a common space for play.
EVENTS - SAGER DER SAMLER
As a part of my contribution in Vores Rum my prototype should be involved in a pancake event held the 17th of Mai 2015 to make attention about the project in Aarhus.
